WHALE WATCHING IN WALKER BAY

Known as the "heart of the Whale Coast", Hermanus is arguably the best Whale Watching area in the country. About 60-100 whales visit Hermanus between July and December every year and come to within 10 metres of the shore. Walker Bay is recognised by the WWF as one of the world's top twelve whale viewing locations.

Cape Holiday Chalet

The Cape Holiday Chalet is situated in a unique resort in the reserve area called Meerensee (Lake and Sea) which is part of the Middelvlei Nature Reserve. The resort is 10 kilometres (6 miles) outside Hermanus. Being this close to the famous Walker Bay means you can sit on the patio or on the beach and watch huge Southern Right whales playing out in the sea. The Chalet is an hour's drive from Cape Town's airport.

A large lagoon runs along the fringe of the resort. Along the sea lies an endless white sand beach. The Chalet is safe and secure within the gated resort. Sitting on the patio you can watch the birds on the lagoon or see Southern Right Whales heading into Walker Bay.

There are great places to stroll through the reserve. Cross the footbridge to reach the beach, swim in the swimming pool or enjoy a game of tennis. This is a natural setting in which to relax and recharge your batteries.

Rates are R600 a day in-season (Sept - April) and R500 a day out of season. Please contact Lee for availability and bookings.
